More about the provenance Sabzevar | Iran
Sabzevar is the capital of the district Sabzevar in Iran and belongs to the carpet weaving area of Khorassan. They mostly make rugs in the spirit of Mashad rugs in Sabzevar, but almost always finer than Mashad rugs. This is the reason why often very fine Mashad pieces are called Sabzevar. The red color which drifts towards purple is typical for Sabzevar rugs as well as a very precise and fine design of blossoms and a very round medallion (not necessarily in all Sabzevar rugs). Altogether a fine rather rare provenances of rugs in the spirit of Mashad.
